LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Pierre-Henri Soero of Palm Beach Gardens posted a course record 11 under par 61 Monday to earn the victory as the Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour resumed its seventh season after a 17-day summer break. His 61 tied the tour record shot by 2009 Q-School contest winner Justin Peters on September 23rd, 2008 at The Florida Club.
Playing the South course at Fountains Country Club, Soero, 27, bogeyed the par-4 third hole, eagled the par-5 12th and added five birdies on each nine: Nos. 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18. He won by five strokes.
It was Soero’s second MLGT victory, the first coming March 17, 2008, at Woodmont Country Club in Tamarac. He received $1,000 from the $6,913 purse, raising his career MLGT earnings to $16,714.
Derrick Bohannon, Ben Hartman, and Jimmy Lytle tied for second place at 6-under par 66, followed by Kyle Willmann alone in fifth place at 5-under par 67.
This event was the first of 11 tournaments that encompass the final Q-School Contest of 2010. The leading money winner during the contest will get their entry fee to 2010 PGA Tour Qualifying School paid for by the Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour and will join the four previous 2010 Q-School contest winners Jon McLean, Steve LeBrun, Dustin Cone, and Brian Anderson at Q-School on us.
The MLGT’s 63rd tournament of the year drew 57 starters. Two more events are scheduled this week: Wednesday on the Estate course at PGA National, Palm Beach Gardens, and Friday at nearby Winston Trails GC. Event Results
