JUPITER, Fla. – Eric Cole of Orlando, FL birdied the final hole Thursday to win the 54-hole tournament, his 25th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
Cole edged Carl McCauley of Parkland, FL 204 to 205. They matched 66's the first day and 67's the third. Cole’s birdie at No. 18 was equally decisive as his 71-72 edge the middle round Wednesday. Cole collected $1,500 from the $5,304 purse, raising his career earnings to $67,201 since August, 2009.
Brian Anderson from Rochester, IL shot 66 and had the low round of final day. It earned him a solo 3rd place finish.
The 54-hole tournament drew 12 starters. Next on the schedule: Monday, Indian Spring CC, and Thursday, North Palm Beach CC.
JUPITER, Fla. - Eric Cole added a 1-under par 71 to his first round 66 for a 2 day total of 137 and a 1 shot lead entering Thursday's final round. Carl McCauley made 3 bogies and 3 birdies during the second round for an even par 72 and enters the final round just one shot back.
Tied for 3rd and entering the final round 5 shots back are Brian Anderson and Austin Powell. Brian overcame a 2 shot penalty when he arrived at the first tee 4 minutes after his assigned tee time due to an accident on Interstate 95. USGA Rule 6-3 states that if a competitor arrives at their starting point, ready to play, within 5 minutes after their starting time, the penalty is 2 strokes in stroke play. Anymore than 5 minutes results in disqualification.
The 36 hole cut fell at 1-under par 143. The field was cut to the low 40% and ties. Thursday there will be a one day event held at Abacoa Golf Club open to players that failed to make the 36 hole cut and any other professionals or amateurs with a USGA handicap of 6 or less that chose not to compete in the 54 hole event. The one day event has an entry fee of $180 with a 50% payout.
