PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Jason Powell of Loudon, Tenn., and Jonathan Bartlett of Ocala were declared co-champions after playing nine holes of sudden death Monday afternoon in a Minor League Golf Tour event on the Estate course at PGA National.

After they tied at five under par 67 on the 6,700 course, Powell and Bartlett matched birdie-4s on the first hole, bogey-5s on the par-4 third hole, and pars on the other seven.

"After nine holes, I declared them co-champions," said MLGT founder and tournament director Jay Slazinski. "They had both fought so hard, it would have been tough for one of them to lose." There was still ample daylight to continue when play was halted. Each received the posted first place prize of $325.

There were 24 starters.

Next on the MLGT schedule: Wednesday (May 11), Inverrary CC-East, Lauderhill, and May 17-18, PGA National-Estate. For information and entry, call Slazinski at 561-319-8460, or go to www.minorleaguegolf.com.
