PALM CITY, Fla. - David Ladd of Palm Beach Gardens claimed his
second Minor League Golf Tour victory Wednesday at Hammock Creek
Golf Club, scoring his second straight 68 for 136 to win by a
stroke. He earned $1,000 from the $2,760 purse.
The first round Tuesday was at the nearby Florida Club, which was
played as a par-71 with the fourth hole cut from a par-5 to a par-4
because of a maintenance problem.
Brett Burton, 19, of Stuart, a contender the past three seasons in
Palm Beach County Golf Association tournaments, cashed his first
check as a pro, earning $400 on a tie for third at 140. Burton won a
MLGT event as an amateur on June 3 at Hammock Creek, his home
course.
Matt LeConche of Palm Beach Gardens played the final nine holes in
five under par 31 for 66-144 to sneak onto the money list after
opening with 78.
The MLGT has more than 30 one- and two-day events scheduled before
the end of the year, according to tournament director Jay Slazinski,
the next one being Friday on the South course at the PGA Golf Club
in Port St. Lucie. For information and entry, call Slazinski at
