Amateur O'Flynn Wins
Seven Man Playoff
Wednesday  December 5, 2007

PALM CITY, Fla. – Seven players shot three under par 69 at Hammock Creek on Wednesday resulting in an unusual seven man sudden death playoff.

Michael Brice, Brad Hartfield, Justin Hicks, Pleasant Hughes, Jack Lander, Sandro Piaget and Amateur Thomas O'Flynn headed to the first tee with daylight in short supply in a scene  reminiscent of something you might see on the Golf Channels big break.

After a tee shot OB, three missed birdie attempts from off the green and two missed birdie putts, the last player to hit his third shot was amateur Thomas O'Flynn, who drained his 12 foot birdie putt to win the December Open.

Since O'Flynn is an amateur, the USGA allows for up to a maximum of $750 per event in winnings in the form of merchandise or gift certificate.  The remaining $50 of the $800 first place allotment was divided between the six players that tied for second place.

Back on March 15 Justin Hicks won a five man playoff at Atlantis that ironically also included Sandro Piaget and Michael Brice.  Results

Justin Peters Plays Masterfully, Again.

Monday  October 1, 2007

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Justin Peters of Plantation birdied the first three holes to post the only under par round of the day.  His three under par 69 on Monday at The Club at Emerald Hills was his eighth win on the Minor League Golf Tour.  In his previous win, Justin shot a blistering first round 62 on the Breakers Rees Jones Course.

The start of play was delayed for almost three hours by (according to weather.com) an upper-air disturbance, a stationary front, and a weak surface low in the northwest Bahamas combining to deliver wet, windy weather to south Florida.  Contestants were allowed to withdraw without forfeiting entry fees because of the potential looming weather and soggy playing conditions.  Seventeen of the original thirty-six players decided to stay and tee it up in the event appropriately renamed "The Emerald Hills Iron Man Open."

After his fast start, Peters added bogeys at Nos. 6, 9 and 13 and birdies at the seventh, 15 and 18th holes. He finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Adam Adams of Coconut Creek and earned $500 from the $1,815 purse.

Walter Blum, Jr. finished solo third and Kyle Hammond placed fourth in his first event as a professional.

The mixture of strong winds, hard rain, wet conditions and determined players resulted in a unique day of learning and camaraderie we will all remember.  Event Results

PALM CITY, Fla. – David vonHoffman of Palm Beach Gardens parred the third playoff hole Monday to win the Minor League Golf Tour event at Hammock Creek, outlasting Derrick Bohannon of Stuart and Jake Pasch of Boynton Beach after they tied at three under par 69.

Pasch was eliminated on the first extra hole, the 10th, despite making his par-4 as Von Hoffman and Bohannon sank 20 footers for birdie.  Both Dave and Derrick two-putted for par-4s at the 11th and Von Hoffman two putted from 25 feet at the par-3 12th for the victory after Bohannon flew the green, chipped back and missed par from 10 feet.

It was Von Hoffman’s second MLGT victory, the first on Feb. 28, 2006, at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill.  He earned $500 from the $1,960 purse. Bohannon and Pasch tied for second among the 21 starters, receiving $312.50 apiece.  In regulation, Von Hoffman made six birdies and three bogies; Bohannon an eagle, two birdies and a bogey; and Pasch, five birdies and two bogies.

Course Record 62!

Saturday  August 25, 2007

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –  Justin Peters of Plantation, Fla. set a course record on Friday at The Breakers Rees Jones Course during the first round of the 36 hole MLGT Major.  His 62 included 10 birdies and 8 pars and eclipsed the old mark of 64 by two shots.

Because of routine aeration maintenance, the event was played with a local rule allowing players to lift, clean and place their ball in closely mown areas.  Danny St. Louis, the Director of Golf, kept Justin's original scorecard as a memento of the tremendous round.

Bobby Collins fired a second round 66 to finish solo 2nd and Shawn Hall followed up his even par 72 with a 69 on Saturday.

Weather was a factor both days.  Friday afternoon five groups had a one hour delay and on Saturday, storms formed a 180 degree half circle around the course, causing conditions to continuously deteriorate throughout the afternoon.  Ten players from the middle of the pack were able to improve upon their first round score, while none of the nine players in the final three groups scored better in the final round.

Collins - Pittman Playoff!
Monday  August 27, 2007

JUPITER, Fla. – Bobby Collins of Palm Beach Gardens birdied the first two playoff holes Monday at Abacoa Golf Club to outlast Brent Pittman of Jupiter for his first Minor League Golf Tour victory.

Collins, playing in the second group, posted five under par 67 on the course playing its full 7,200 yards.  After checking the leader-board on the 17th hole, Pittman knew he needed to birdie 18 to force a playoff.  Overall, Collins made eight birdies and three bogeys, Pittman an eagle, four birdies and a bogey.

The playoff started on the par-5 tenth hole.  Both players hit the green in two, with Collins about 40 feet and Pittman about 20 feet.  After Collins left his eagle attempt a few feet short, Pittman came within a couple inches of ending it.  On the drive-able 288 yard par-4 eleventh hole both players chose the safe play, teeing off with and iron in regulation and the playoff.  Pittman hit his approach next to the hole and it spun 20 feet back to the fringe.  Collins hit his shot past the hole and it spun back to within a few feet.

Collins earned $750 from the $4,100 purse. Pittman, the runner-up among 41 starters, received $500.
