JUPITER, Fla. – Jimmy Lytle of Ocean Ridge turned back a
final round challenge Tuesday to win the last event of the
fourth full season on the Minor League Golf Tour, the Tour
Championship at Abacoa Golf Club. Lytle scored
67-68—135 to edge the 2006 MLGT Tour Champion, Adam Fox of
Stuart, who birdied the last two holes for 64-136.
In 36 holes, Lytle made 13 birdies and a pair of bogeys each
day. It was his fifth MLGT victory, all this year, and the
third since turning pro in July. Fox closed with an eagle at
the par-5 10th hole and six birdies. Lytle earned
$2,500, Fox $1,600, from the $18,550 purse.

Erik Asp and

Experience Leads Jurkowitz
to First MLGT Win
Thursday December 11, 2008
PLANTATION, Fla. – Warren Jurkowitz of Aventura fired a
three under par 68 on Thursday in windy, wet conditions to
score his first Minor League Golf Tour victory. Jurkowitz
eagled the par-5 ninth hole and added four birdies (Nos. 3,
5, 10 and 17) and three bogeys (Nos. 7, 14 and 15) on the
East course at Jacaranda Golf Club. He earned $800 from the
$4,730 purse.
Jurkowitz, who made it to the finals of PGA Tour Qualifying
School in 1986 and 1988, just missed advancing to Champions
Tour Finals last month after shooting 68-75-69-73. He has
been playing professional golf since before many of his
competitors on the MLGT were born and his ability to stay
patient and focused on a miserable day was the key to his
victory.
Amateur Mathieu Rivard from Quebec finished second with a
2-under par 69, followed by Mike Auterson in third at 70.
A pair of players, Marvin King and Andres Victoriano tied
for fourth at even par 71.

Out in the second group, Chris Damiano set the bar early
with a 5-under par 67, which was matched by Peter Bronson.

Motion Golf Shootout Ends with
3-Man Playoff
October 31, 2008

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – After windy
conditions and a few Halloween scary pin positions took their toll on the
field, Alan Morin of Royal Palm Beach got this bunker shot up and down for
birdie on the first playoff hole Friday at The Falls Country Club to score
his fifth Minor League Golf Tour victory. Morin outlasted Curt
Gammage of Ridgetown, Ontario, and Rolf Muntz of Brasschat, Belgium, after
they tied at one over par 73. Both Gammage and Muntz failed to
convert on long birdie attempts.
In regulation, Morin made two birdies, a
bogey and a double bogey; Gammage had five birdies, three bogeys and a
triple bogey; and Muntz scored four birdies, three bogeys and a double.
Morin earned $630, Gammage and Muntz $425 apiece, from the $3,520 purse.
Motion Golf, a new
Minor League Golf Tour event sponsor, is giving the
winner
a 1 hour 3-D swing analysis. The system reads small reflective
markers on the golfer and instantly renders a 3-D graphics character in
their image, providing unique feedback to what is happening in their golf
swing. Watch for the upcoming web video of winner Alan Morin's
session.
It was the last in a series of four MLGT
tournaments at The Falls since Sept. 10, two of which were won by Morin,
an assistant professional at the club and one of the top playing club
professionals in South Florida.

double bogey at the par-4 first hole) and amateur Rob Fodor (four birdies,

Brandon Brown tames severe wind gusts and rain squalls
October 24, 2008
NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. –
Brandon Brown of Shelbyville, Ky., had the only sub-par score of the
day, a two under 69, to earn his second Minor League Golf Tour
victory Friday at the North Palm Beach Country Club.
Brown made five birdies (Nos. 2, 3, 6, 16 and 18) and three bogeys
(9, 14 and 17). He earned $505 from the $2,247 purse.
Brown’s previous MLGT win was on Feb. 5, 2007, at Martin Downs in
Palm City.
High winds and midday rain squalls
made scoring difficult. Coincidentally, this was a make up
event for the Oct. 13 tournament that was rained out at this venue.
Yesterday's winner Matt Abbott finished second at even par 71,
followed by Peter Laws and Jake Korb at 72.
The MLGT’s 104th tournament of the year drew 21 starters.
Three 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, The Club at
Emerald Hills, Hollywood; Tuesday, Don Shula’s Hotel & GC, Miami
Lakes; and Friday, The Falls CC, Lake Worth.

October 1, 2008
PALM CITY, Fla. – Brett Bergeron of
LaPlace, La., did not make a bogey in posting a five under par 67
Wednesday to earn victory in The Minor League Golf Tour event at
Hammock Creek Golf Club. The course conditions were very
difficult due to the extremely wet past few days that required the
ball to be played up in the fairway. It was Bergeron’s third
MLGT title, the first two coming in June, one at Hammock Creek and the
other at the nearby Florida Club.

He birdied Nos. 2, 8, 13, 15 and 16 here, earning $500 from the $2,600
purse and a $65 gift certificate for a sports massage from
DBS of North Palm
Beach.
Peter Laws, Steve LeBrun, and Jimmy Lytle all finished a shot back at
4-under par 68.

September
29, 2008
JUPITER, Fla. – Steve
LeBrun of West Palm Beach Springs won on the first extra hole Monday
in a Minor League Golf Tour event at the Jupiter Country Club.
LeBrun and Shawn Matthews of Palm Beach Gardens had tied at 68, each
making six birdies and two bogeys. In the playoff, LeBrun
two-putted from 20 feet for par-4 at the 18th hole.
Moments later, Matthews missed a putt for par and a halve to extend
the playoff.
It was LeBrun’s second
straight MLGT victory following his win Thursday at The Falls CC,
his seventh title this year and eighth overall. A graduate of
John I. Leonard High and Florida Atlantic University, LeBrun earned
$525 from the $7,228 purse. Matthews, second among 27 starters
and still looking for his first MLGT victory, received $425.
Adam White of
Okeechobee moved to four under, enough to tie for the lead, when he
scored a hole-in-one at the 240-yard 17th with a 3-wood.
After splitting the fairway on the eighteenth hole, his 7-iron
approach shot hit the greenside cart path and careened into a
un-maintained area, leading to a double bogey and a tie for third.

Friday morning we had a
weather situation that was delivering wet, windy weather as Tropical
Storm Hanna passed by.
We did not feel it was dangerous and the event should be canceled,
yet because of this rather unique, unpredictable situation,
contestants were allowed to withdraw without consequence.
We strive to be the ultimate developmental players tour and our
decisions are made from that perspective. It is why
we did not penalize anyone who decided not to play today AND it
is why we ran an event for the 18 players that wanted to play,
even though it was a financial loss for the tour.
Unlike most tours, we always play our scheduled events regardless
of how many players register, and for more than 4 years and 380
events, we have proven that you can count on us and our
payout formula to deliver. It is true
that our larger fields reward the winner with more money,
nevertheless, the reason we run low cost events, and you should play
the MLGT is to frugally develop your game for a tour that requires
status to play. |

Jimmy Lytle Opens
Summer Series Event At PGA National's Estate Course with 64, Leads by 1 Over
Paul Scaletta
August 12, 2008
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – Jimmy Lytle, who won his first event as a
professional last Monday, shot an opening round 8-under par 64 on Tuesday to
lead the 3-Day Summer Series Event by a shot over Paul Scaletta.
Scaletta, an instructor at PGA National, has won three times on the MLGT,
all at PGA National. He has won on the Estate course twice, the third
victory coming in a weather shortened event on the Champ course, home of the
PGA Tour's Honda Classic.
Derrick Bohannon, who is second on the 2008 MLGT Money List, and Tim Turpen
posted 66. Leading money earner and winner of the last Summer Series
event Steve LeBrun, is not in the field, giving Bohannon a great opportunity
to close the gap. David Clodfelter, Patrick Hawkins and Alan Zimmerman
each opened with 5-under par 67. In all, 25 of 43 players broke par.
Jim Fitzpatrick II used a 5-Iron to ace the par-3 tenth hole. It was
one of three skins out, worth $93.34 each. Adam Adams eagled the par-5
ninth hole and Juan Aller made eagle on the par-5 fifth to collect their

LeBrun Makes it Look Easy, Wins by a Tour Record 11 Shots!
July 30, 2008
JUPITER, Fla. – Steve LeBrun of
West Palm Beach carded everything from a double eagle to a double bogey en
route to victory Wednesday in the first of four 54-hole events in a seven
week period. LeBrun shot rounds of 66-64-70—200, sixteen under par,
winning by 11 shots at Abacoa Golf Club. He made a double eagle at
the par-5 17th hole Tuesday by holing a 251-yard second shot.
In three days, he also had two eagles, 14 birdies, three bogeys and a
double bogey.
It was LeBrun’s sixth MLGT victory, his
fifth this year. He earned $3,000 from the $14,450 purse. A lifelong
resident of Palm Beach County, LeBrun graduated from John I. Leonard
High School in 1996 and from Florida Atlantic University in 2000.
Brett Bergeron finished 2nd at 5-under par
211 followed by Derrick Bohannon and Max Alverio at 2-under par 214.
Hernan Rey was solo 5th and Yohann Benson, who played in the US OPEN at
Torrey Pines last month was 6th. Benson said the greens at Abacoa
were as fast as they were at Torrey Pines, but much smoother.
Erik Asp was the only player to break 70 in the final round, giving him
the biggest move up the leader board. His 4-under par 68 vaulted him
from 14th to 8th place, and a difference of $575 dollars in his paycheck.
The event drew 34 players. The 36-hole cut to 50 percent of the field fell
at eight over par 152. The next 54-hole event is slated Aug. 12-14
on the Estate course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

LeBrun Holes Out For Double Eagle, Leads by 9!
July 29, 2008

The main reason double eagles are so rare is that the vast
majority of golfers do not have the length to reach a par-5 in two or a
par-4 in one. |
JUPITER, Fla. - Steve
LeBrun was
7-under par for the day and 13-under par total when he came to the par-5
seventeenth hole. After a solid drive in the fairway, LeBrun hit his
rescue club from 251 yards with a slight draw----it landed about 15 feet
short of the hole bounced a few times and rolled in!
A double eagle 2 on a par-5 hole is a 1 in 1,000,000
shot according to
Dean Knuth, the former senior director of the handicap
department at the USGA from 1981 to 1997 and now a Golf
Digest contributing editor.
To put it in perspective, the odds of a tour pro making a hole in
one are 3,700 to 1.
Since 1970 (36 years) there have been only 82 double eagles recorded
on the PGA Tour--an average of just over 2 per year by the best of
the best playing tens of thousands of rounds. Surprisingly, it
was not the first double eagle in MLGT history. On February 17, 2006,
Roy Wegerle made a 2 on the par-5 first hole (now #5) at PGA National's
Estate Course.

July 25, 2008
NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. – Mike Adamson of
Stuart birdied the first playoff hole Friday to edge Steve LeBrun of West

is heading off to the PGA Championship in a week, was fourth at 2-under
par 69.
In regulation, Adamson made his sixth birdie of the day at the 18th
hole, offset by a double bogey at 14. Mike earned $800 from the
$4,815 purse. His birdies earlier in the round were at Nos. 2, 9,
11, 12 and 13.
LeBrun had an eagle, four birdies and two
bogeys. He collected $500. It was the second day in a row that
LeBrun has finished second in an MLGT event. On Thursday at Woodmont
Country Club in Tamarac, LeBrun also shot 67 and tied for second, a stroke
behind Ryan Baker of Albuquerque, N.M.
LeBrun is atop the 2008 money list and has won five MLGT events.

tournament of the season, and 372nd since the mini-tour began
in 2004, drew 45 players.

hole that would have extended the playoff. The winners earned
$1,280, $640 apiece, from the $7,200 purse.
In regulation, the 30-team field played a four-ball stroke play event
on the front nine and a scramble on the back. |

Jim Fitzpatrick II Shoots 67 For Third Win
June 18, 2008
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Jim Fitzpatrick II
of Stratford, Conn., fired a five under par 67 Wednesday at West Palm
Beach Golf Club to earn his third Minor League Golf Tour title.
After making the turn in 33 on three birdies, Fitzpatrick eagled the
par-5 10th hole and added a bogey at No. 14 and another
birdie at the 17th to win by two strokes over Taylor Stewart.
Stewart and six other players suffered through hours of a lightning
delay, waiting for an opportunity to get back out on the course and
finish. All seven players had less than two holes to play and had
to deal with steady rain and soggy conditions. Five of the seven
finished in the money, but three of those five bogeyed eighteen.
Apart from Fitzpatrick and Stewart, 17 players shot 70, 71 or 72.
A former Florida State University golfer, Fitzpatrick's two previous
MLGT victories were within three days last month, May 19 on PGA
National's Estate course and May 21 at Atlantis Country Club. He
earned $600 from the $3,465 purse here.

Monday on the Minor League Golf Tour at Abacoa Golf Club.
After birdies at the third, fourth and fifth holes, Peters made
double bogey at the eighth, birdied the ninth and 10th
and parred the last eight holes. Matt Abbott was second with a
-2 under par 70. After the second lightning delay, play
resumed at 5:20pm with the final group finishing at 7:15pm.

Mother nature provided a perfectly

"Basically, I shot one over at my local qualifier where we had
roughly 60 players for 4 spots. There were about a dozen players
from the previous week's Nationwide Tour event an a handful of PGA
Tour players from the AT&T in Atlanta. I was in a playoff with 6
other players for 2 spots. After making pars on the first couple of
holes (9 an 18), one player made a birdie and was out, Peter Tomasulo,
and three others had made a bogey. So it was down to me and a
Clemson player who happened to drive it 350 off the tee. On our 7th
playoff hole he made birdie and I was only able to make another
par."
"The USGA called me the following week and told me that as 1st
alternate out of my site that I was in the sectional qualifier if I
wanted to play due to Ryuji Imada being exempt after being in the
top ten on the money list. So I was given his spot at the Columbus
qualifier. We used two courses, the Ohio State University Scarlet
course and Brookside CC. There were 23 spots and probably 140
players. Two under in the morning and two under in the afternoon
got me in a playoff....11 for 7 spots. A lot of big names there
Love/Couples,
including the playoff. Tom Pernice, Eric Axley, Steve Marino in the
first group of 5, followed by myself, Chad Campbell, and Rocco
Mediate in the second group of 6. I made birdie on the first hole
from about 15 feet and carded one of two birdies out of all 11 of us
including Rocco's birdie and that was it." |

Hicks
Struggles Friday,
Will Play Weekend
June 13, 2008
La Jolla, CA -
After sharing the first round lead at the US Open with an opening round
68, Justin Hicks fell back into the pack and is at +6 over par going
into the weekend.
The Detroit Free Press reported that after the first hole Hick's
group was warned by tournament officials that it was five minutes behind
its allotted pace of play. "Having the lead in the Open is not
something I deal with on a daily basis," Hicks said. "And when you
accompany that with 'Oh, yeah, by the way, you're behind. You need to
pick it up' ... that kind of got me going in a gear that I wasn't really
wanting to play in." On the sixth hole, Hicks' group officially
was put on the clock. From that point forward, each player was given 40
seconds to hit each shot.
