On August 20, 2004 the first Minor League Golf Tour event was conducted at Inverrary Country Club. Three players teed it up paying an entry fee of $90 and Tom Cleaver fired 73 to take home the $150 first place check. During the inaugural season in 2004, the MLGT conducted 25 events with a total of 26 members. Total prize money for that year was $7,695 but more importantly a mission was established: to provide an affordable professional training ground for players that aspire to play on the PGA Tour. 23 years later that mission remains stronger than ever. While entry fees have increased over time reflecting rising host venue costs, labor and other operational expenses, the MLGT continues to be one of the most affordable professional tours available to players pursuing their dream.
A long standing goal of the MLGT was to have over 1,000 members in a single year and in 2025 that milestone was achieved. 1,038 different players competed on the MLGT in 2025 with $1,566,649 in prize money paid out. Over the past 23 years more than 6,000 players have competed on the MLGT, 2,395 events have been conducted with over $17 million in prize money paid out.
While the growth of the MLGT is a source of great pride, none of it would be possible without the support of many contributors. We want to thank every player that has competed and chased their dream, every venue that has hosted an event, every sponsor who has supported the tour and every staff member who has helped make the tour run.
Here's to 2026 and making it the best year yet.
