Our Mission

The goal of The Minor League Golf Tour is to provide an affordable training ground for aspiring players to hone their game. Just like minor league baseball, The Minor League Golf Tour provides a place for those with a dream to keep chasing it.

What Makes The Minor League Golf Tour Special

A great deal of planning has gone into developing our fee structure, payout and website.  It is what makes our tour distinctive.  This page contains a complete written and visual explanation to ensure that you understand our payout.  We want you to comprehend how it works so that you will appreciate the value our tour offers.

Tournaments

Our Events cost between $100-$250 per day. For those who want to play for more money, we have an optional Skins game and Bonus Pool in most events. The cost per day may be higher for Majors and special multiple day events.

How much of the Entry Fee goes towards the purse?

As much as possible.  The Minor League Golf Tour has a formula to determine how much to charge for each event based upon:
  • Our First Place Guarantee
  • The selected payout for the event, 33%, 40%, 50%, or Pass/Fail
  • The cost to run the event. We target $20 per player per round, but since 2010 the average administration fee taken per player per round is under $15.
* Entry fees vary depending on the venue, payout type, payout percentage and time of year.  Course costs are composed of cart fees, greens fees, range balls, cart staff gratuity and tax.  Course costs can be more than twice the summer rate from January through April.  Entry fees will be adjusted accordingly to guarantee our payout percentage and first place guarantee when applicable.

First Place Guarantee: $

Payout Formula

On The Minor League Golf Tour, each event is pre-assigned one of the following four payout formulas.

50% Payout

Our first place guarantee based upon number of players plus the top quarter of the field (0-25%) ALWAYS earn a check for at least 100% of their entry fee, with last place in the top quarter equal to the entry fee.  Solo last place equals 1/4 of the entry fee.

40% Payout

Our first place guarantee based upon number of players plus the top quarter of the field (0-25%) ALWAYS earn a check for at least 100% of their entry fee, with last place in the top quarter equal to the entry fee. Solo last place equals 1/3 of the entry fee.

33% Payout

Our first place guarantee based upon number of players plus the top quarter of the field (0-25%) ALWAYS earn a check for at least 100% of their entry fee, with last place in the top quarter equal to the entry fee.  Solo last place equals 1/3 of the entry fee and the majority of the remaining purse is distributed to the top quarter by performance.

Pass/Fail Payout

(more details) The closest number of players and ties to 50% of the field, but not to exceed 50% of the field passes and earns at least their entry fee back. In the pass/fail event format the player that finishes 1st will earn the same check as the player who finishes just inside the top half of the field.

Want to play for MORE Money? Bonus Pool and Skins are available in most events.

Bonus Pool.

Since you are already paying course and administration fees with your event entry, 100% of the bonus pool entry goes into the bonus pool purse. The bonus pool has a 33% payout with solo last place money equalling at least 100% of the bonus pool entry fee.

All payouts are generated by our Bonus Pool Purse Calculator. Using the drop down link on the calculator, you can change the number of players and the payout will adjust. Each event with a bonus pool option will have a link to it, with that events bonus pool entry amount. The bonus pool entry fee amount appears on the event details page.

Skins.

The skins game entry (usually $20 per round) must be paid when you are paying your entry fee online for the event. Our hole by hole scoring feature provides the data for a cool skins grid where the results can be watched and verified by all.

To follow IRS guidelines, skins are paid via direct deposit like regular earnings and will count towards your official MLGT earnings. Amateurs that earn skins playing in the Training Divison will be paid with gift cards.
When paying for the event, a skins and bonus pool check box is available on the payment screen. This is the ONLY chance you will have to get into the skins and bonus pool for the event. If it is a Multi-Day event the skins and bonus pool are for the first 2 days. Skins and Bonus pool earnings are paid via direct deposit like regular earnings and will count towards your official MLGT earnings.
