PLANTATION, Fla. - Carl McCauley of Parkland, FL won the 54-hole tournament by two strokes with 68-69-69-206. He birdied the par-4 18th from four feet to eliminate the chances of challengers Dan McCarthy and Mason Jacobs. McCarthy finished with 68-208, tied for second with Jacobs' 70-208.

In 54 holes, McCauley had 14 birdies and 4 bogeys. He collected $1,500 from the $5,664 purse, raising his career earnings to $47,932.46. He played in two MLGT events in 2006 and has played regularly since May, 2012, and now has 11 titles.

The tournament drew 16 starters and a 36-hole cut to the low 40 percent and ties fell at 144 leaving seven players for Wednesday's final round.

The MLGT plays three 18-hole events next, after which a two and a half week summer break is on the calendar. Play resumes July 13 at Indian Spring-East. Next week's schedule: Tuesday, Atlantis CC; Thursday, Wanderers Club; and Friday, the summer team championship at Hammock Creek GC.

Right on his heels is Mason Jacobs from Metropolis, IL at 6-under par 138. Jacobs finished strong with 3 birdies in his last 7 holes to get within 1 shot of McCauley heading in the final round. Dan McCarthy sits in solo 3rd place after 36 holes at 4-under par 140.

Seven players made the cut which fell at even par 144.

Nick Marcoaldi fires a 5-under 67 to lead the field by 1 shot

PLANTATION, Fla. - Nick Marcoaldi from Holliston, MA overcame a double bogey on the 6th hole with 7 birdies to shoot a 5-under par 67 and lead the way after round 1 of the first 3-day event of the summer. Carl McCauley was blemish free en route to a 4-under par 68 and solo second place after day 1. Two shots back is Mason Jacobs from Metropolis, IL after a 3-under par 69.
