Tim Turpen fires a 67, edges Tyler Kitson by 1 shot
High winds from Tropical Storm Sandy make for a tough test
Thursday, October 25, 2012

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Tim Turpen of West Palm Beach scored his 21st victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour with a five under par 67 Thursday at Ironhorse Country Club. Turpen edged Tyler Kitson, also of West Palm Beach, by a stroke.

Turpen made seven birdies and two bogeys, receiving the winner’s guaranteed share, $1,000, from the $1,927 purse, raising his earnings to $92,485 since he joined Golfslinger in July, 2006. Kitson, at 68 second among 11 starters, had three birdies and a bogey on each nine. He collected $450.

The small field was due to several withdrawls due to the threat of Tropical Storm Sandy. There were a few brief rain squalls and some brisk winds but never enough to interrupt play, according to Tournament Director Jimmy Jones.

Three 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, Links @ Madison Green, Royal Palm Beach; Tuesday, TPC @ Eagle Trace, Coral Springs; and Friday, Champions Club @ Summerfield, Stuart.

There was $40 in the skins pot with 9 skins out worth $4.44 each.
