WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Greg O’Mahony of Tequesta sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole Wednesday to earn his 17th victory on the Golfslinger.com Tour. Moments earlier, David Smith of Ruston, La., missed a putt from just outside O’Mahony’s ball. They had tied at four under par 68 at the West Palm Beach Municipal Golf Course.
In regulation, each player had six birdies, O’Mahony at Nos. 4, 5, 10, 12, 17 and 18; Smith at Nos. 2, 3, 5, 10, 11 and 16. O’Mahony made a double bogey at the par-4 15th hole. Smith bogeyed the first and eighth holes.
O’Mahony, a former three-time NCAA Division II All-American at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla., earned $1,000 from the $6,600 purse, raising his career earnings to $58,347 since joining Golfslinger in August, 2009. Smith, runnerup among 46 starters, received $700.
The Golfslinger Tour resumes with an 18-hole tournament Thursday at Martin Downs CC in Palm City. The second “major” of the year is scheduled April 23-24 at Abacoa GC in Jupiter. The winner will receive $10,000.
