PLANTATION, Fla. – Scott Turner of Palm City won his third straight Golfslinger.com Tour event Tuesday with a three under par 68 on the East course at Jacaranda Golf Club. Turner had four birdies, at Nos. 1, 5, 14 and 15, and bogeyed the par-3 third hole to beat Brandon Smith of West Palm Beach and Johnny Bloomfield of Davie by two shots.
The Golfslinger record is five straight titles held by Jimmy Jones, set in November and December, 2004, the Tour’s first year. Jones is currently tournament director for the Golfslinger Tour, which has staged 1,036 events since August, 2004, 81 this year.
It was Turner’s eighth win since he first played Golfslinger in June, 2005. His next opportunity to extend his current streak comes Thursday on the Rees Jones course at Breakers West in West Palm Beach. He won Aug. 22 at Bear Lakes CC, West Palm Beach, and Monday at The Wanderers Club, Wellington.
Turner, 28, an assistant professional at Hammock Creek GC, Palm City, and at President CC, West Palm Beach, earned $570 from the $2,040 purse. Smith and Bloomfield, tied for second among 17 starters, matched 70s and received $420 apiece.
