PLANTATION, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, N.Y., fired a five under par 66 with three consecutive birdies midway through the round Wednesday on the East course at Jacaranda Golf Club for his 32nd victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
After birdies at Nos. 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12, McCarthy, 29, bogeyed the 13th and 15th holes to win by a shot. He received $720 from the $3,658 purse to raise his career earnings to $101.028 since joining the MLGT in October, 2007.
Carl McCauley of Parkland and Charlie Winegardner of Lothian, Md., tied for second at 67, each with five birdies and a bogey. Both birdied the par-4 18th hole.
The MLGT’s 40th tournament of the year drew 31 entries. Next on the schedule: Thursday, Martin Downs CC, Palm City, and next Tuesday and Wednesday (April 21-22), a 36-hole “major” at Abacoa GC in Jupiter. With at least 45 players, the winner will receive $6,000, or $10,000 for 60 or more.
