LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Carl McCauley of Parkland posted eagle-birdie on the par-5 second hole of the East course at Inverrary Country Club enroute to victory Monday on the Minor League Golf Tour.
McCauley eagled the hole in regulation and scored a two under par 70, adding three birdies and as many bogeys, then won a playoff with Alejandro Garmendia of Weston and Jimmy Lytle of Ocean Ridge both of whom birdied No. 2 the first time around. In the playoff, Garmendia bogeyed the par-4 first hole and Lytle hit his approach shot into the water at the second, enabling McCauley to win with a two-putt birdie from 40 feet. Overall, Garmendia had two birdies and a bogey on each nine, Lytle four birdies and two bogeys.
McCauley, 26, received $625 from the $2,080 purse, raising his career earnings to $45,096. He played in two MLGT events as an amateur in 2006 and fairly regularly as a pro since 2012.
The MLGT’s 43rd tournament of the year drew 16 entries. Next on the schedule: Wednesday, West Palm Beach GC, and Thursday, Champions Club, Stuart.
