BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Alejandro Garmendia of Weston, FL played a bogey free round of golf Monday and won by eight strokes as the Minor League Golf Tour returned to action after a two and a half week summer break.
Garmendia, 22, was the only player to break par as he posted an eight under 64 on the East course at Indian Spring Country Club. He made six birdies on the front, two on the back, collecting $425 from the $1,472 purse to raise his career earnings to $21,921. It was his eighth victory since he joined the Tour in August, 2010.
Matt Springer from Gary, IN, Sam Boyd from Washington, DC, and Jon McLean from Weston, FL all tied for second place after rounds of even par 72.
The MLGT’s 62nd tournament of the year drew 16 entries. Next on the schedule: Thursday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter, and next Monday, Hammock Creek GC, Palm City.
