LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, NY, eagled the third extra hole Monday (pictured above) to claim his 37th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. McCarthy was tied in regulation at six under par 65 with Floridians Brandon Smith of West Palm Beach and Carl McCauley of Parkland.
None of the three made bogey in regulation, each carding six birdies. Then Smith had bogey-5 at the first extra hole and McCarthy drove the green at the 332-yard, par-4 third hole and sank a seven-foot eagle putt for the win. McCarthy received $700 from the $2,860 purse, raising his career earnings to $109,068. Smith and McCauley collected $500 apiece.
The 97th MLGT tournament of the year drew 22 entries. Next on the schedule: Wednesday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter, and Thursday, Fountains CC-South, Lake Worth.
