LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ontario, led a hot day of scoring on the Minor League Golf Tour with an 11-under par 61 on the South course at Fountains Country Club.
Silverman birdied all four par-5 holes, Nos. 1, 5, 12 and 15, as well as 2, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 18. He did not have a bogey and received $775 from the $4,000 purse, raising his career totals to 31 wins and $116,461.80 since September, 2010.
Two West Palm Beach players, Brandon Smith and Steve LeBrun, tied for second with 9-under par 63's, a score good enough for at least a playoff on most days. Each had nine birdies, neither made a bogey, and they earned $550 apiece.
The 102nd tournament of the year drew 36 starters. On the schedule next week: Monday, Inverrary CC-East, Lauderhill; Wednesday, TPC Eagle Trace, Coral Springs; and Thursday, Martin Downs CC, Palm City.
