CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, NY, birdied three of his last six holes Wednesday for a two-stroke victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. It was his 39th win, the third this month, as he edged Jimmy Lytle of Ocean Ridge, FL 69-71 at the Tournament Players Club at Eagle Trace.
After three birdies (Nos. 3, 5 and 7) and as many bogeys (2, 4 and 9) on the front, McCarthy birdied 13, 14 and 16 to insure the win. Lytle had three birdies and two bogeys before parring the last seven holes.
McCarthy earned $725, Lytle $575, from the $3,175 purse. Lytle is tied for the MLGT career record of 48 victories.
The 104th tournament of the year drew 25 entries. The MLGT plays again Thursday at Martin Downs CC in Palm City.
