PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Eric Cole of Orlando, FL, birdied seven of his last nine holes Tuesday on the Squire course at PGA National for his 30th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
After turning in 34 with three birdies and a bogey, Cole birdied Nos. 10, 11 and 12, parred 13, added birdies at 14, 15 and 16, then finished bogey-birdie at 17 and 18. He collected $550 from the $2,500 purse and an additional $177 from an optional bonus pool for a total of $727. He has MLGT earnings of $78,457 since August, 2009.
Richard Donegan, an amateur from Okeechobee, FL, shot 68 to tie Jordan Elsen of Kenosha, Wis., for second among 22 starters. Each made five birdies and a bogey.
It was Donegan’s fifth MLGT start, the first time he has “cashed,” receiving a pro shop merchandise certificate for $415. Donegan won the Palm Beach County Golf Association’s Stroke Play Classic last summer on the East course at nearby BallenIsles CC.
The MLGT resumes play Thursday at West Palm Beach Municipal GC.
