PALM CITY, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, NY, birdied the last two holes Thursday at Martin Downs Golf Club for a seven under par 64 and his 44th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
Some 25 minutes earlier, Will Coleman of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, birdied his last three holes only to fall a stroke short at the end with 65. Coleman got off to a rough start being 2 over par through 3 holes but battled back with 8 birdies and no bogies in his last 15 holes.
Overall, McCarthy made four birdies on each nine and a bogey at the 10th hole. He collected $975 from the $5,265 purse, raising his career earnings to $126,632 since October, 2007. Coleman, who had eight birdies and two bogeys, received $650. He has six wins since joining the MLGT in 2011.
MLGT's all time leading money winner Jimmy Lytle finished alone in 3rd after a 4-under par round of 67 which included 5 birdies in a row.
The 10th MLGT event of the year drew 39 entries. Three 18-hole tournaments are scheduled next week; Monday at Parkland G&CC, Wednesday at Abacoa GC, and Thursday a Honda Classic Pre-Qualifier tune up on the North Course at Fountains CC.
