PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Dan McCarthy of Syracuse, NY, made five birdies on his last nine holes Tuesday to pull away for a four stroke Minor League Golf Tour victory at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club.
At six under par 66, McCarthy collected his 46th win since joining the MLGT in October, 2007. After making the turn in 35 with two birdies and a bogey, McCarthy birdied Nos. 10, 11, 12, 17 and 18. He received $600 from the $3,030 purse plus an additional $225 from an optional bonus pool, raising his career earnings to $135,679.
Legacy Golf Club will host local qualifying for the United States Open Championship next week. The Minor League Golf Tour would like to thank them for hosting us and giving the players a chance to compete on their great golf course before the qualifier.
The 44th tournament of the year drew 30 entries. The MLGT next plays Thursday on the Tour course at Weston Hills CC in western Broward County. Weston Hills is also hosting a local stage of US Open qualifying next week.
