LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Brandon Smith of West Palm Beach,FL, played a flawless round Thursday on the South course at Fountains Country Club, winning for the 31st time on the Minor League Golf Tour. Smith did not make a bogey in scoring a seven under par 65 to win by two.
Smith joined the MLGT in October, 2005, and won twice before turning pro in January, 2010. He collected $1,000 from the $5,265 purse and an additional $200 in an optional bonus pool, boosting his career earnings to $108,427.
Four players tied for 2nd at 5-under par 67 including Jeff Bronkema from Plainwell, MI, Tyler McCumber from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Alex Medinis from Fort Myers, FL, and Mateo Gomez (a) from Columbia.
The MLGT’s 26th tournament of the year drew 39 entries. Three 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, North Palm Beach CC; Wednesday, West Palm Beach GC; and Thursday, Martin Downs CC, Palm City.
