LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Steve LeBrun of West Palm Beach, FL, birdied five out of six holes midway through the back nine Tuesday enroute to an eight under par 63 which both tied the Atlantic National Golf Club course record and led to his 52nd victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
After making the turn in 33 on three birdies, LeBrun, a former PGA Tour and current Web.com Tour player, birdied Nos. 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17. He did not drop a shot all day.
LeBrun received $800 from the $4,320 purse plus an additional $177 from an optional bonus pool and $68 from the skins game for a total of $1,045, raising his career earnings to $145,245 since he joined the MLGT in August, 2007.
Rasmey Kong, an amateur from West Haven, Conn., missed a five foot birdie putt at the 18th hole that would have tied LeBrun and forced a sudden death playoff. Instead, Kong finished second among 36 starters with 64 on seven birdies, no bogeys. He received a gift certificate for $550. It was his best MLGT finish in 35 starts over the past year.
Thank you to Atlantic National for hosting this event. The course was in great shape.
After taking the Thanksgiving weekend off, the MLGT returns to action Monday on the Estate course at PGA National.
The Tour Championship is only 8 days away. It will be staged at Abacoa Golf Club Wednesday-Thursday November 30-December 1. If more than 60 players compete (which has happened the past 4 years) first place will be $10,000. The field is limited to the first 78 players that sign up so don't wait.
