PARKLAND, Fla. – Michael McGowan of Southern Pines, NC, made a two-putt par on the fifth playoff hole Monday at Parkland Country Club for his second victory in two weeks on the Minor League Golf Tour.
McGowan outlasted Dylan Newman of New Rochelle, NY, after they tied at three under par 69. They halved the first four holes with pars of 5, 3, 4 and 4. At the par-4 fifth, Newman missed the green on his second shot, chipped to eight feet then missed his par moments after McGowan two-putted from 15 feet.
McGowan received $650, Newman $500, from the $3,270 purse. Each received an additional $75 from an optional bonus pool, McGowan another $65 from the skins game for a total of $790. McGowan earned his first victory as a professional January 17th, shooting a 65 at the nearby Country Club of Coral Springs. Newman has three MLGT wins in sporadic appearances since April, 2015.
The MLGT’s 10th tournament of the month drew 26 entries. The circuit’s first “major” of its 14th season is scheduled Thursday and Friday at The Country Club of Coral Springs. With a full field of 78 players, 1st prize will be $10,000.
