Justin Hicks fires record breaking 130 (67-63) on the Champ at PGA National
Hicks set the largest margin of victory on the MLGT and largest gap between winner and last place money
Tuesday, July 11, 2017

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – That he won by a record 12 strokes was only part of Justin Hicks’ story Tuesday as play resumed in the Minor League Golf Tour after a 2 week summer vacation.

Hicks shot 67-63—130 on the Champion course at PGA National, which played to its normal par-72 rather than the par-70 of the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour each spring when the sixth and 10th holes play as par-4's.

Hicks, 43, of Wellington, birdied six in a row and 9 of 10 holes midway through the second round. In 36 holes, he birdied seven straight par-5's before finishing with a bogey at the long 18th Tuesday. He bogeyed twice Monday.

Another record that Hicks set this week on the Minor League Golf Tour was the 22 shot margin between the winning score and last place money (-14 to +8).

Hicks trains with MLGT partner Florida Institute of Performance in Palm Beach Gardens. FIP offers MLGT members a special group training rate of $200 per month which includes 3 group training options per week. Call Team FIP at 561.252.6050 to ask about a FREE 1 week trial.

At 142, Floridians Hunter O’Mahony of Tequesta (70-72) and Tarik Can of Sunny Isles (73-69) tied for second among 31 starters in the tournament sponsored by Amino VITAL. The previous record margin was 11 by Steve LeBrun in a 54-hole event in 2008.

Hicks earned $1,600 from the $8,800 purse, $840 from the optional bonus pool and $257.80 in the skins game for a total of $2,697.80. O’Mahony and Can collected $1,200 apiece from the main purse. O'Mahony added $680 from the bonus pool and $44.45 in skins to total $1,924.45.

Twice a winner on the Web.com Tour, Hicks won four times in June and has an MLGT career total of 31 victories.

A big thank you goes out to our event sponsors of Amino VITAL and TourMARK grips. Amino VITAL provided players with a tour towel, water bottle and focus zone throughout the event and TourMARK provided a putter grip to those that wanted one.
