PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – That he won by a record 12 strokes was only part of Justin Hicks’ story Tuesday as play resumed in the Minor League Golf Tour after a 2 week summer vacation.
Hicks shot 67-63—130 on the Champion course at PGA National, which played to its normal par-72 rather than the par-70 of the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour each spring when the sixth and 10th holes play as par-4's.
Hicks, 43, of Wellington, birdied six in a row and 9 of 10 holes midway through the second round. In 36 holes, he birdied seven straight par-5's before finishing with a bogey at the long 18th Tuesday. He bogeyed twice Monday.
Another record that Hicks set this week on the Minor League Golf Tour was the 22 shot margin between the winning score and last place money (-14 to +8).
