PLANTATION, Fla. – Justin Hicks of Wellington, FL, made six birdies in a row midway through Monday’s round enroute to his 28th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Hicks, 43, finished at six under par 66 on the West course at Jacaranda Golf Club to win by one stroke.
Jeg Coughlin III, an amateur from Delaware, Ohio, making just his 12th start, shot 67 for his best finish on the MLGT, second among 21 starters. He eagled the par-5 14th hole to go with four birdies and one bogey.
Hicks bogeyed the seventh hole, then birdied 9 through 14 and added one more birdie at No. 17. He collected $575 from the $2,500 purse, $150 from an optional bonus pool and $52.50 in a skins game for a total of $777.50, raising his career earnings to $68,745 since 2005. Hicks has spent several seasons on the PGA and Web.com tours in recent years but has no exempt status this year.
