PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Sunny Kim of Queens, NY, backed up a bogey free opening round of 64 with 70 to win 2018 Qualifying School Contest #1 at PGA National Estates.
Kim's 8-under par total of 134 was one better than Evan Russell of Essex, VT. Kim was two shots clear of Russell most of the day and a clutch par on #15 after driving it in the water was key. Kim then birdied 16 to move three ahead. A bogey from Kim on #17 followed by a birdie from Russell on 18 closed the margin of victory to one.

Evan Russell birdied the final hole to move into solo second place at 7-under par. 34 players chose to enter the $200 Qualifying School Contest creating a prize pool of $6,800. Russell will receive the remaining $2,300 to put towards his Qualifying School entry this year.
