PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Sunny Kim of Queens, NY, has won for the 48th time on the Minor League Golf Tour, building on a first round lead to win by two strokes Tuesday. Kim scored 65-70 for 135, seven under par on the Estate course at PGA National.
Kim carded three birdies on each nine Monday, three more on the back Tuesday, and his only bogeys, three, on the front Tuesday. He received $2,000 from the $10,765 purse, raising his career earnings to $215,752 since October, 2006.
Tied for second at 137 were Sean Busch, West Lafayette, IN, with 70-67 on 14 birdies and nine bogeys; Paul Park, Wayne, NJ, 71-66, an eagle, eight birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey; and Nyasha Mauchaza, Port St. Lucie, FL, 74-63, one eagle, 10 birdies and seven bogeys. Each received $1,116.67 from the main purse.
The MLGT’s 28th tournament of its 15th season drew 44 starters. Next on the schedule: Thursday, Palm Aire CC, Cypress course, Pompano Beach.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Qualifying School Contest #1 winner, Sunny Kim, is back at is playing a flawless round on Monday that included 6 birdies and no bogies. He took advantage of his length on the three par 5's playing them three under par.
Evan Russell from Essex, VT, has a chance to get some redemption from Qualifying School Contest #1 five weeks ago. Russell finished 2nd to Kim in that contest where first place recieved $4,500 to put towards a Qualifying School of the players choice. Russell still earned $2,300 in that contest but he'll have a chance tuesday to battle it out with Sunny again.
Only six players broke par on a tough windy day at PGA National. Wind gusts measured 31mph and the average score for the field was 75.38.
