PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Brad Gehl of Carmel, IN, birdied the first playoff hole Tuesday for his sixth victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Gehl birdied the par-5 18th hole on the Palmer course at PGA National to edge Jamie Sindelar of Horseheads, NY, after they tied at five under par 67.
Gehl sank a 15-foot birdie putt at the 18th for the win after Sindelar missed his birdie putt from about 40 feet. In regulation, Gehl carded a little of everything – eagles at the par-5 fourth and 12th holes, four birdies, 10 pars, a bogey, and a double bogey at the par-4 16th. His most recent win was also on the Palmer course, a 36-hole event Aug. 8-9, also on the first hole of a playoff.
Second among 16 starters, Sindelar was mistake-free with an eagle at the 12th hole and three birdies.
The outcome ended Sindelar’s two-tournament winning streak, both last week on courses in adjacent Martin County. Prior to Tuesday’s play Sindelar had won 9 of his previous 15 MLGT starts dating back to July 31.
Gehl received $580, Sindelar $450, from the $1,920 purse. Each received an extra $150 from an optional bonus pool.
