JUPITER, Fla. – Even a bogey at the final hole Thursday could not keep Steve LeBrun of West Palm Beach from winning for the 72nd time on the Minor League Golf Tour. LeBrun made three birdies on each nine at Jupiter Country Club before closing with his only error of the day, at the par-4 18th. He collected $1,088, raising his career earnings to $200,704 since he joined the MLGT in August, 2007. He received $775 from the $4,250 purse, $223 from an optional bonus pool and $90 in the skins game.
LeBrun is a graduate of John I. Leonard High School and Florida Atlantic University. He has played on both the PGA and Web.com tours.
At 69, David Sanders of Mt. Laurel, NJ, was among four players tied for second. He received a $400 bonus for the lowest 54-hole score of the week. He totaled 208 with 68 Monday, tied for second at Indian Spring CC, Boynton Beach, and 71 Tuesday, one stroke out of a five-man playoff at nearby Abacoa GC.
10 players chose to enter the optional 3-day cumulative bonus pool where scores from all three 1-day events this week counted towards. The entry fee was $100 and 100% of the entries go into the purse creating a prize pool of $1,000. Here is how they stacked up after 54 holes.
The 97th tournament of the year drew 34 starters. Three more 18-hole events are scheduled next week: Monday, Evergreen Club, Palm City; Wednesday, Fountains CC-West, Lake Worth; and Thursday, St. Lucie Trail GC, Port St. Lucie.
