STUART, Fla. – James Driscoll of Brookline, MA, making just his fifth start on the Minor League Golf Tour, scored his first victory Wednesday with a nine-under-par 63 at The Florida Club. Driscoll turned in a mistake-free scorecard with birdies at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 8 on the front side and the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th coming back. He collected $580 from the $2,075 purse and another $214 from an optional bonus pool, raising his career earnings to $1,922. This was Driscoll’s third MLGT start since April 6. He played once in 2007 and once in 2016.
Driscoll's 63 set the new course record since The Florida Club was renovated in 2017/18. The old course record was also in a MLGT event in Sep 2008 where Justin Peters shot 61.
Today's event was the second of three 1-day events this week that make up 2019 Monday Qualifying School Contest #4 presented by Abacoa Golf Club. Eric Beringer overtook first round leader Piri Borja with 66 at The Florida Club. Borja sits in 2nd at (-7) followed by Chad Bricker at (-6). The player with the lowest 3-day cumulative score will win a $1,000 bonus to compete in a Monday Qualifier on the PGA or Web.com Tour.
