PLANTATION, Fla. – Nick Latimer of Cleveland, Ohio, playing in the final group off the tee, birdied the final hole Monday for a one-shot victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Latimer edged Jacob Eggers of Boone, NC, 65-66, on the West course at Jacaranda Golf Club. Eggers had finished about a half-hour ahead of Latimer with pars on the last four holes.
Eggers won the biggest share of the prize pool, collecting $550 from the $3,480 purse and $214 from an optional bonus pool for a total of $764, compared to $700 in purse money for Latimer, who chose not to enter the optional bonus pool and skins game. This was Latimer’s 14th win since he joined the MLGT in November, 2009. Eggers has three wins over three years and three months on the MLGT.
In regulation, Latimer made an eagle at the par-5 10th hole to go with seven birdies including the decisive 12-footer at No. 18. He had two bogeys. Eggers eagled the par-5 ninth, adding five birdies and a bogey.
Today's event was the first of three 1-day events this week that make up 2019 Monday Qualifying School Contest #5 presented by Abacoa Golf Club. Latimer enters the 2nd event tomorrow at Abacoa Golf Club one shot ahead of Eggers and two shots ahead of two players at -5. The player with the lowest 3-day cumulative score will win a $1,000 bonus to compete in a Monday Qualifier on the PGA or Web.com Tour.
