JUPITER, Fla. – Roland Massimino of Lumberville, PA, making his seventh start in the last seven weeks on the Minor League Golf Tour, won for the second time Thursday, both at Jupiter Country Club.
The grandson of a legendary college basketball coach, the late Rollie Massimino, Roland posted a seven under par 64 compared to 65 on Oct. 24, to win by one shot. He made three birdies on each nine, eagled the par-5 ninth hole and bogeyed the par-3 17th.
Massimino received $1,000 from the $6,155 purse and $232 from an optional bonus pool to raise his career earnings to $3,502.
Michael Werenski of South Hadley, MA, and West Palm Beach, FL, still looking for his first MLGT victory, was second among 48 starters with 65 on seven birdies and a bogey, collecting $650.
Marc Mazza of Palm Beach Gardens, FL was among three players tied for third at 67. Also in that trio were former tour player and journeyman James Driscoll and Jupiter CC member Nick Sorkin.
The MLGT plays three 18-hole tournaments next week, Monday, Indian Spring CC-East, Boynton Beach; Tuesday, Abacoa GC, Jupiter; and Wednesday, Fountains CC-South, Lake Worth. There is an optional $100 3-Day Cumulative Bonus Pool for players that are participating in all three events.
