WELLINGTON, Fla. – Floridian Eric Cole of Delray Beach and Orlando won for the 48th time on the Minor League Golf Tour with a five under par 67 Wednesday at Wellington National Golf Club.
Cole eagled the par-5 sixth hole and added birdies at Nos. 8, 13 and 17 to finish a stroke up on the field. He collected $625 from the $2,775 purse, $232 from an optional bonus pool and $44 in the skins game for a total of $901.
A stroke back at 68 was Piri Borja of Coral Springs, FL, second among 23 starters, followed by Justin Bryant, St. Louis, MO, with 69. Borja and Bryant each made five birdies. Borja had one bogey, Bryant two. Coincidentally, a day earlier at Abacoa GC in Jupiter, Cole and Borja tied for second with 67's, three behind the winner, Ian Facey of Miami.
Monday Qualifier Contest #8 presented by Abacoa Golf Club concludes tomorrow at Atlantis Country Club. Cole takes a one shot lead over Borja and a four shot lead over Bryant. The player with the lowest cumulative score from all three one day events this week will win a $1,000 bonus to compete in a Monday qualifier on the PGA or Korn Ferry Tour. Cole won Monday Q Contest #5 back on June 13th. Borja has been close a couple times this year and will look to win the final contest of 2019.
