PALM BEACH, Fla. – Adam Long of St. Louis, MO, a winner on the PGA Tour less than two years ago, returned to the Minor League Golf Tour on Thursday to earn his second victory on the Stuart-based mini-tour.
Long and another PGA Tour veteran, Bo Hoag of Columbus, OH, combined to win the 12th annual Par 3 Team Trilogy at the Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Club by a shot at 16 under par 65 on rounds of 20, back nine, scramble; 24, front nine, modified alternate shots; and 21, back nine, four-ball stroke play, or better ball. They earned $1,000 apiece from the $11,360 purse and another $236.50 each from an optional bonus pool.
Long won the PGA Tour’s Desert Classic in January, 2019, by a shot lower than Phil Mickelson, 262 to 263. Hoag won 10 times on the MLGT before joining the PGA Tour fulltime in 2018.
Second Thursday were Jacob Eggers of Boone, NC, and Corey Birch of Ridgefield, CT, with 22-23-21—66, each collecting $863.50, including $213.50 from the bonus pool.
There were no hole in ones and no holes won outright for the skins pot. MLGT policy states that the holes with the lowest number of ties will split the skins pot. Holes 3 and 4 (modified alternate shot format) had three birdies on them so those 6 teams split the skins pot and received $240 per team.
Each of the 3 nines had a closest to the pin contest.
