JUPITER, Fla. – Derrick Bohannon of Shelbyville, Ky., finished strong both days to win the 36-hole tournament conducted by the Minor League Golf Tour at Abacoa Golf Club. In Monday’s opening round, Bohannon birdied the par-3 13th and eagled the par-5 17th for 68. In the final round Tuesday, he birdied five holes on the inward nine including three in a row starting at the par-3 15th for 66.
At 134, Bohannon finished two shots ahead of Brian Anderson of Rochester, Ill., who has five MLGT victories this month, nine for his career. In 36 holes, Bohannon made an eagle, 10 birdie and one bogey in each round, earning $1,750 from the $8,920 purse. It was his career 13th MLGT title but first since winning a pair in January, 2009.
Anderson scored 67-69—136 with nine birdies and one bogey. He received $1,125 and more importantly, has won the April Q-School Contest. Andersons entry fee into the PGA Tour qualifying tournament in the fall will be paid by the MLGT.
Matt Torrance (137) finished third after rounds of 69-68 followed by John Stoltz in fourth place with rounds of 70-68 for a 138 total.
There were 37 starters in the MLGT’s 41st tournament this year, 12th this month. One remains, Thursday at President CC, Eagle course, in West Palm Beach.
There was $140 in the Day 2 Skins Pot with 6 skins out worth $23.34 each. Chad Bouchard birdied the seventh hole, Brett Bergeron birdied the par-3 eighth and the twelfth hole. Paul Gagliardi made birdie on nine and eagle 3 at the par-5 seventeenth hole and Alex Messiqua birdied the par-4 sixteenth hole. Zac Oakley and Greg Kopf tied with 73 in the second day shootout, earning $60 each.
