PLANTATION, Fla. – Warren Jurkowitz of Aventura fired a four under par 67 Monday and won the first senior division competition conducted by the Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour. Playing the East course at Jacaranda Golf Club, Jurkowitz made four birdies in a bogey-free round, three on the last seven holes. Jim Karr was second with 1-under par 70 followed by Jeff Grygiel with 72.
In select events both the senior and regular division will play from the same tees giving players 47 and older the option to enter both with an extra $125 entry fee in addition to the initial $170 payment. There were eight in the older flight with four playing in both brackets. Players 49 and older are competing in a special 11-tournament bonus pool through Oct. 13 which will pay for entry into Champions Tour qualifying tournament later this year.
Jurkowitz could have swept both flights had he paid the extra entry fee. Brian Anderson of Jupiter won the regular division at 69 with birdie on the first playoff hole after Alfredo Adrian of Tamarac hit his tee shot into the water left of the fairway. Anderson and Adrian each made four birdies and two bogeys.
It was Jurkowitz’s second MLGT title, the first coming Dec. 11, 2008, also at Jacaranda-East. He earned $450 from the $1,000 purse.
