ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. – Scott Hawley of Shrewsbury, Mass., birdied five of his last eight holes Thursday at The Links at Madison Green and pulled away for a five under par 67 to win by two strokes on the Fuzion Minor League Golf Tour.
It was Hawley’s fourth MLGT victory since May, 2006, his first since May 18, 2009. After a birdie at the third hole and a bogey at the fifth, Hawley, 32, birdied Nos. 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16. He earned $825 from the $4,705 purse.
Matt Torrance of East Lyme, CT tied for second with a couple of players from Quebec, Canada, Martin Plante from St-Sauveu and Alexandre Ouellette of Saint-Jerome.
There were 38 starters for the MLGT’s 125th tournament this year. Three more events are scheduled this month: Monday at Jacaranda in Plantation; Nov. 29, at the Fountains in Lake Worth; and Nov. 30 at Abacoa in Jupiter.
There was $200 in the skins pot, and Chad Bouchard won the whole pot with his birdie 2 on the par-3 sixth hole.
