PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Ben Silverman made a four-foot birdie putt during a driving rainstorm Friday to win a Golfslinger.com Tour playoff between two Toronto area golfers on the Estate course at PGA National. Moments earlier, Keegan Tyers missed a six footer at the par-4 first hole. They had tied at five under par 67.
It was the 22nd victory since September, 2010, for Silverman, of suburban Thornhill, Ontario. He received $855 from the $5,975 purse, raising his career Golfslinger earnings to $91,489. Tyers, of Toronto, has made $2,460 since joining the tour in January, 2013, including $600 Friday. He scored his only victory March 24 at West Palm Beach GC.
In regulation, Silverman birdied and Tyers bogeyed at the first hole. Overall, each made seven birdies and two bogeys.
Kyle O'Neill of Chicago tied for third with Will Coleman from Kensington, MD. Seven players tied for 5th placed at 3-under par 69.
Golfslinger returns to the Estate course Monday. The tour’s second 2014 “major” is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday at Abacoa GC. With a field of at least 55 players, the winner is guaranteed $10,000.
