DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Trevor Sluman of Rochester, NY, fired a course record eight under par 64 the first round Wednesday and backed it up with a solid 67 Thursday to earn his first victory in just his third start on the Minor League Golf Tour.
Sluman, 23, edged PGA Tour veteran Justin Hicks of Grosse Ile, Mich., by 131 to 132. Sluman had an eagle at the par-5 15th hole and six birdies the first round, then six more birdies the second, adding his only bogey in 36 holes, at the par-3 12th hole, for 67. The nephew of the 1988 PGA Championship winner Jeff Sluman, Trevor earned $1,160 from the $5,890 purse.
Hicks, 41, who has a winter home in Royal Palm Beach, shot 67-65 with six birdies and a bogey at the par-3 12th hole Wednesday, seven birdies Thursday. Second among 31 starters, Hicks received $900 from the main purse and an additional $857 from an optional bonus pool, totaling $1,757.
Brant Peaper tied the course record of 64 in the second round that Trevor Sluman set yesterday in the first round.
Hicks also gets his $4,000 entry fee paid into second stage qualifying for the Web.com Tour in 2017 based on a playoff win over Lee McCoy of Palm Harbor, FL. Each totaled 18 under 270 for 72 holes this week, including a 36-hole event Monday and Tuesday on the Fazio course at PGA National. On the fourth extra hole, Hicks sank a 10 footer for birdie moments after McCoy missed from 15 feet. McCoy was the winner at PGA National with 134 and shot 136 at Seagate to tie for sixth. Hicks had 138 at PGA National, tied for fifth. He has won 22 MLGT tournaments over the years when not playing on the PGA and Web.com tours.

Lytle also made an eagle but at the par 4 8th hole. He added 5 birdies and no bogies.
Wednesday at Seagate Country Club was the 3rd round of the WEB.com Q-School Contest. Lee McCoy and Brandon Smith shared the 36 hole lead at -10. Smith shot a third round 69 to get to -13 while McCoy shot 66 to get to -16 and take a 3 shot lead into the final round.
Jhared Hack shot 68 in the third round and is also 3 shots back of McCoy at -13
