PALM CITY, Fla. – Chase Koepka edged Steve LeBrun on Thursday in a duel between West Palm Beach players. After they tied at six under par 65 in the first round Wednesday on the Osprey Creek course at Martin Downs Country Club, Koepka closed with 67-132 to LeBrun’s 68-133.
It was Koepka’s fifth victory in just eight starts on the MLGT. The brother of U.S. Ryder Cupper Brooks Koepka, Chase received $3,500 from the $14,015 purse and an additional $95 from the skins game for a total of $3,595. He has $13,367 in MLGT earnings since turning pro in June of 2016. He made 12 birdies and 2 bogeys in 36 holes.
LeBrun, who has played on the PGA and Web.com tours in recent years, joined the MLGT in August, 2007. Since then he has accumulated 49 wins and earnings of $139,400, including $2,200 Thursday. In two days, he had 11 birdies and 2 bogeys. None of the errors were in the first round.
The 90th tournament of the year drew 29 starters. Next on the schedule: Monday, PGA National-Estate course; Wednesday, Plantation Preserve; and Thursday, Champions Club at Summerfield.
