PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Jonathan Garrick of Atherton, CA, birdied the first extra hole Tuesday to earn his second victory on the Minor League Golf Tour in less than three weeks. Garrick outlasted Bryden Macpherson of Melbourne, Australia, after they tied at seven under par 64 on the Estate course at PGA National.
In the playoff, Garrick’s approach shot finished within three feet of the flagstick at the par-4 first hole and he made the winning birdie putt moments after MacPherspon’s chip from behind the green just barely missed. Garrick finished regulation with an eagle at the par-5 18th hole and more than an hour and a half ahead of Macpherson, who was in the final grouping in the 47-player field. In fact, Garrick left the course and had to come back for the playoff. He didn't warm up for the playoff and went on to birdie the first extra hole for the win.
Garrick earned his first victory on his initial MLGT start Nov. 18 with 65 at West Palm Beach Golf Club. He received $950 from the $6,440 purse and an additional $200 from the optional bonus pool for a total of $1,150. Macpherson collected $1,110 including $680 as his share of the purse, $230 in the skins game and $200 from the bonus pool.
The MLGT plays next Thursday at Martin Downs CC in Palm City.
