Today's tournament was about more that golf. This event honored the late Justin Fonseca, who played four winter seasons on the Minor League Golf Tour. He was 27 when he died in an automobile accident in June, 2014. He worked at Island Hills Country Club during the summer months to save up enough money to pursue his dream of playing golf professionally in the winter.
The Minor League Golf Tour created the Justin Fonseca Sportsmanship award to recognize a member of the Tour that conducts himself like a gentleman on and off the golf course like Justin did. This years award goes to Mike Miller who is a class act through and through. Miller is an accomplished golfer. In fact three days ago he earned medalist honors at 2nd stage of Q-School. December 6-9, Mike will compete at final stage of Web.com Q-School to determine his priority ranking for the 2019 Web.com tour. Mike won this award, however, because he is a better person off the golf course than player on it. He is a consummate professional in every sense of the word. Mike recieved a paid entry into today's event with the award. Congratulations Mike and continue to be a great role model for the next generation of golfers.
