LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Daniel Obremski of Pittsburgh, Pa., made five birdies on the last eight holes Thursday enroute to his 11th victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. After an eagle, two birdies and two bogeys on the first seven holes, Obremski turned in 34, then birdied Nos. 11, 12, 14, 16 and 18 for 30-64 at Atlantic National Golf Club. He collected $925 from the $5,335 purse, $200 from an optional bonus pool and $120 from the skins game for a total of $1,245.
Before play started, Obremski, 27, announced that starting with Thursday’s round he would donate $5 for each birdie he makes for the rest of the year to “Believe With Me,” a charity that provides assistance for families who have lost a loved one who was in the military. The MLGT has 10 tournaments remaining in 2018.
Three Metropolitan New York area players tied for second among the 43 starters, a stroke back at 65, each with splits of 33-32. Sunny Kim of Queens, the tour’s all-time money leader with $232,459.65 coming in, scored an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys; Matthew Hirsh of Hewlett had an eagle and four birdies; and Mike Miller of Brewster made six birdies, three on each nine. Each earned $516.67 from the main purse, plus bonuses.
The MLGT plays twice early next week before taking a brief Thanksgiving weekend break: Monday at Parkland CC and Tuesday at Abacoa GC in Jupiter.
