ATLANTIS, Fla. – Ben Taylor of London, England, overcame a triple bogey at the par-4 seventh hole by scoring birdies on 11 of the 17 other holes at Atlantis Country Club. At eight under 64, Taylor, 27, won by six shots in Minor League Golf Tour play Tuesday. He collected $875 from the $4,270 purse and an additional $113.34 in the skins game. It was Taylor third MLGT victory. He won his first of two starts as an amateur in March, 2011, at Woodmont CC in Tamarac, then succeeded again last November at Jupiter CC.
Taylor barely missed his PGA Tour card for 2019 after winning on the Web.com Tour in 2018. He is currently home during an off week from the Web.com Tour but heads to Louisiana next week for the next Web.com event. He plans on playing a full Web.com schedule this year and playing his way on to the PGA Tour for 2020.
In all of the great golf in Taylor's career, this was the most birdies he's ever made in a round of golf!
Five players among the 33 starters tied for second at 70, including two amateurs, Ryder Sutcliffe of Jupiter, FL and Jeremy Sisson of Skaneateles, NY, each with four birdies and two bogeys. The others were Chase Koepka, West Palm Beach, FL also four birdies and a pair of bogeys; Daniel O’Rourke, Milford, NJ, one eagle, five birdies and five bogeys; and Ross Kronberg, New Canaan, CT, an eagle, three birdies and as many bogeys.
