DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Michael Graboyes of Watchung, NJ, made only three pars Thursday, all on the first nine holes, en route to a nine under par 63 at Seagate Country Club for his first victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
Graboyes, 23, had six birdies on the front, six more birdies and three bogeys on the back. His pars were at Nos. 3, 7 and 9, a par-3, par-4 and par-5, respectively.
He collected $800 from the $4,322 purse and an additional $64 in skins for a total of $864.
Graboyes' 63 is a new unoffical course record. The local rule of lift, clean and place was in effect. The offical course record was set during the first round of a 2-day MLGT event on 9/14/16 by Trevor Sluman.
Graboyes played collegiate golf at Cornell University alongside his brother Luke who also competed in today's event. He graduated in 2018 and turned professional shortly after.
Four of the 36 starters tied for second at 67: Sunny Kim of Queens, NY, had an eagle, six birdies, a bogey and a double bogey; Justin Bryant, St. Louis, MO, an eagle and three birdies; Jacob Eggers, Boone, NC, six birdies and a bogey; and Matt Hill, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, seven birdies and two bogeys.
Three 18-hole tournaments are scheduled next week, two at PGA National, on the Champion course Monday and the Fazio on Tuesday. The tournament Thursday at Jacaranda GC in Plantation will be No. 99 of the MLGT’s 16th season.
