WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Ryan Gildersleeve’s par-3 on the third playoff hole counted for two victories and $6,975 in earnings Thursday. Gildersleeve, of Clearwater, FL, two-putted from 20 feet to beat Sunny Kim of Queens, NY, who missed a six footer for par. They had tied at eight under par 134 on the Estate course at PGA National. They had halved the first two extra holes with par-4's, then Kim missed the green at the 177 yard par-3 third hole.
Gildersleeve received $1,700 from the $7,550 purse, $275 in skins and $5,000 for winning Qualifying School Contest #4 presented by Joey D Golf to be used toward his entry fee into qualifying school later this year for the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour. In regulation, Gildersleeve carded a pair of 67's with an eagle, five birdies, a bogey and a double bogey Wednesday, five birdies and one bogey Thursday.
Kim collected $1,300 from the main purse and $27.50 in skins, boosting his MLGT-leading career earnings to $266,450 since October, 2006. He has 66 wins overall. Kim posted 68-66 with four birdies the first round, six the second, and one bogey each day.
16 of the 26 players chose to enter the optional $200 Qualifying School Contest presented by Joey D Golf. Gildersleeve won the $5,000 bonus to pay for his Q-School entry fee later this year.
Eric Beringer won the 2nd Day Shootout with a score of 69. He earned $150 for the win.
The MLGT plays Monday at Abacoa GC, then a 36-hole Tune Up tournament Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 14-15) on the Rees Jones course at Breakers West. Breakers West is hosting 1st stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School October 1-4.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Piri Borja from Coral Springs, FL made seven birdies in his opening round of 66 on the Estate course at PGA National. He will enter the final round tomorrow with a one shot lead over three players at 67.
Ryan Gildersleeve from Clearwater, FL, Bryden Macpherson from Melbourne, Australia and Andreas Halvorsen Berg from Larvik, Norway will all be chasing Borja on day two.
