PALM CITY, Fla. - Ben VanScoyk of Grand Rapids, MI, birdied the third playoff hole Monday for his first victory on the Minor League Golf Tour.
VanScoyk and Jimmy Hervol of Hopkinton, MA, had tied at five under par 67 at Hammock Creek Golf Club. With darkness closing in, they went to the par-3 eighth hole for the playoff, halving with pars the first time and with bogeys the second. On the third trip down the par-3, Hervol two-putted for par from 25 feet and VanScoyk sank a 15 footer for birdie and the win.

In regulation, VanScoyk had a bogey-free card with five birdies, four on the inward nine, earning $950 from the $5,220 purse. Hervol, making just his third MLGT start, made seven birdies and two bogeys, collecting $600 from the main purse and another $232 from an optional bonus pool. Hervol, playing an hour and a half behind VanScoyk, birdied the eighth hole in regulation but finished with bogey at 18.
