PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Rodrigo Lee of Brazil has made two starts on the Minor League Golf Tour and each one has been a winning effort.
Lee closed out a two-day tournament Thursday on the Fazio course at PGA National with a one under par 71 after opening Wednesday with 63. At 134 he won by a stroke.
Monday on the South course at Fountains Country Club west of Lake Worth Beach, Lee and Gavin Hall of Pittsford, NY, both finished at six under 66. They were declared co-champions as playoffs are temporarily suspended due to Covid-19 rules.
Hall was third Thursday, 136 to 135 by Camilo Aguado of Miami, FL. Aguado shot 68-67 with an eagle and seven birdies. He parred his last 12 holes the first round. Hall scored 69-67 with an eagle, nine birdies and three bogeys.
Lee eagled the par-4 second hole Wednesday but bogeyed the same hole Thursday. He added eight birdies and a bogey the first round, two more birdies in the final. He received $1,400 from the $5,130 purse and another $367 from an optional bonus pool. He collected $791 Monday, totaling $2,558 for the two tournaments.
Andy Buege of New Albin, Iowa, won a second day shootout Thursday among players who were outside the projected money list after the first round. He matched par-72, collecting $150 and an additional $54.29 in the skins game during regulation play.
The MLGT has three consecutive one-day tournaments next week that will make up Monday Qualifying School Contest #3: Monday, PGA National-Estate; Tuesday, Abacoa GC and Wednesday, Indian Spring CC-East. All professionals that play all three events will automatically be entered into the contest and the low cumulative score will win a $1k bonus to compete in a Monday Qualifier on the PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Rodrigo Lee from Brazil holed out from the fairway for eagle on the par-4 2nd hole and never looked back. He would add 8 birides and 1 bogey to his first round scorecard and holds a 4 shot lead over the field.
Lee tied for the win earlier this week at Fountains Country Club with Gavin Hall.
Amateur Jude Kim from Plantation, FL also holed out from the fairway but later in the round on the par-5 17th hole. It was his 3rd shot and the eagle propelled him to a 5-under par 67.
There is an OPTIONAL $50 2nd day shootout for players that are outside the money after day one (72 and higher). If you would like to participate you must sign up and pay online before the first tee time on Thursday. No exceptions.
