MIAMI, Fla. – Thomas Lamonte of Haworth, NJ, matched par 71 Monday for his first victory on the Minor League Golf Tour. Lamonte made three birdies and as many bogeys at Melreese Country Club. He earned $700 from the $2,740 purse. This raised his career MLGT earnings to $6,921 in just over 13 months.
Tied for second at one-over 72 were Bryce Emory of Aurora, IL, two birdies and three bogeys, and Joel Garcia Lee of nearby Homestead, three and four, respectively.
It is very rare that no one in the field breaks par but the combination of Melreese CC being a challenging layout with some steady strong winds proved to be a challenge.
The MLGT’s 24th tournament of the year drew 21 starters. Next on the schedule: Tuesday, CC of Coral Springs, and Wednesday, West course at Jacaranda Golf Club, Plantation.
